The posts are suitable for doctors at F2 level or above. You may be an aspiring Emergency Physician wishing to gain experience in prior to an ACCS application. You may want to develop your skills while deciding on the direction of your career. Alternatively, you may be starting your career in the UK and need general experience in an NHS teaching hospital. Whatever your motivation, The Ipswich Hospital Emergency Department offers outstanding training opportunities in a friendly, welcoming environment conducive to learning with an experienced and committed faculty.

Training opportunities in Ipswich are plentiful and you will have access to these in the same way as colleagues in recognised training posts. Consultant and other senior EM support is available 24 hours per day. You will be offered chances to be involved in research, audit and teaching. Simulation based training sessions are provided in the East Anglia Simulation and Training Centre on site. A comprehensive compulsory clinical induction programme is provided prior to commencement of the post. Protected teaching sessions are held every Wednesday afternoon. Senior and middle grade support is available 24 hours a day. The hospital runs several ATLS, ALS and EPLS courses and you will be encouraged to attend these. Study leave will be provided.

The Department of Emergency Medicine in Ipswich is innovative and successful. The Ipswich Hospital has consistently achieved the Emergency Care Access Standard (Four hour rule). We have also been assessed by the Care Quality Commission as “Outstanding” in a report published in April 2015.

We are a recognised Trauma Unit in the East of England Trauma Network seeing a full and varied casemix typical of a medium sized DGH. You will receive comprehensive support from your senior staff and we are interested in improving the quality of care that you provide, not Increasing the quantity of patients that you see.
