About the Job:
Consultants provide recommendations to their clients for a fee. Consultants use their skills, experience, intellectual capital and an integrated set of methodologies to solve client business problems, translating  findings into written, actionable recommendations. There is a frequent need to attend customer sites for extended periods of time. The person(s) selected will be exposed to a broad range of challenging problems and can expect to expand  interpersonal and project management skills along with technical leadership and analytical skills. There will be opportunities for formal training plus access to a wide base of informal education sources within IBM.

Work takes place in an unstructured environment creating, sharing and reusing intellectual capital to solve diverse, technology related issues that extend from the boardroom to the machine room.   The consultant is expected to be an effective change agent, advisor, facilitator and/or practitioner for his customers as the situation requires. Engagement activities in a consulting practice and engagement team  include research, data collection, data analysis, preparation of recommendations, presentation of reports, and contribution and reuse of intellectual capital. The continuous enhancement of skills is vigorously encouraged.

Role Responsibilities;
The role addresses GTS consulting and involves the development of client relationships; identification of business requirements, and the architecting of solutions, processes and services to enable clients to meet their business objectives.
  • To assist clients in  analysing and establishing requirements
  • To assist clients in defining the desired future environment  and to assist clients with the transition in terms of people, process, and technology
  • To understand and utilise the GTS portfolio in defining these solutions.
  • To build large scale programs and to enable the client  to define and measure tangible benefits from the implementation
  • To persuade and influence senior decision makers within large client organisations regarding the suitability of IBM solutions.
  • To deliver recommended solutions within specified time and resource allocations.
  • To develop and maintain successful business relationships with clients in order to win new and follow-on business.
  • To represent IBM’s interests on a clients site for varying periods of time.
  • To work alone effectively, and be flexible enough to work as part of a small or large team on a long term engagement.
