Following a re-organisation of the commissioning of adult speech and language therapy services within south west Essex, NELFT is happy to be able to offer the opportunity for a dynamic and experienced band 5/6 therapist to develop a specialism with clients with disorders of communication and/or swallowing arising from degenerative neurological conditions, whilst also maintaining skills within a generic adult acquired community caseload.
Supported through clinical supervision by a very experienced clinical specialist and other team members, including a specialist for stroke and 2 therapy support workers, this postholder will also have the opportunity to develop/maintain skills in videofluoroscopy through work with the acute SLT service. Regular supervision, access to internal and external learning opportunities, and strong links with SLT colleagues both within NELFT and in local Acute Trust SLT services, make this an ideal post for a band 5 therapist wishing to progress their career and develop skills and knowledge in community caseload and with clients with degenerative neurological conditions.
The postholder must:
- be a registered SLT with HCPC and RCSLT
- have experience of working with a community caseload of clients with acquired disorders of communication/swallowing for a minimum of 1 year for at least 40% of their post-qualification roles.
- Be independent in the management of clients with acquired dysphagia at RCSLT Specialist level or equivalent
The main responsibilities of the post:
- To be able to assess, diagnose and independently mange a range of acquired adult disorders of communication and swallowing
- To be able to manage and prioritise own caseload
- To be able to supervise and support junior SLT’s and support workers
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement – Essex (Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock localities only)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £961 to a maximum of £1,665).
