Job Description

Media Distribution looks after the development and implementation of commercial strategies for the linear TV and digital distribution of The Walt Disney Company’s channels and content. 
 
In the UK, the team works with local broadcast and digital partners such as BSkyB, the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, iTunes, Lovefilm and BT Vision, to name a few – to bring compelling and creative Disney-branded and non-branded entertainment to viewers via a variety of platforms, including the launch of ABC Studios series, such as Lost and Desperate Housewives, and more recently Once Upon a Time and Revenge.   
 
The Senior Attorney acts as a legal/business negotiator on licensing deals for television, channels and transactional services, as well as advising on commercial and legal issues arising from licensing deals. 
 
We are seeking an individual with demonstrable experience of both French Law and French language skills to join our team here at Disney on a permanent basis.
 

General Responsibilities:

  • Draft and conclude license agreements, channel distribution agreements, format agreements, amendments  and other legal documentation required by the business in EMEA
  • Liaise with the sales teams in London and the overseas offices in relation to specific deals and to provide support and guidance  
  • Be the first point of contact for queries from finance, marketing and technical representatives within a specific territory group(s)
  • Strengthen internal and external relationships in ways that benefit the business
 
Additional projects:
  • Help to develop and maintain up-to-date templates for the full range of DMD licences
  • Provide leadership and guidance on the implementation of best practice for drafting and the negotiation of key deal terms
  • Assist in monitoring the output of Contract Managers and Administrators
  • Provide support to the regional digital team and assist in supporting global accounts
  • Work on specific projects from time to time to support DMD business initiatives
 
Deal Management:
  • Develop a solid understanding of the business’s and licensees’ expectations and negotiating position through effective utilisation of cross-functional expertise
  • Work with sales team to structure and support negotiation of agreements
  • Draft and complete license agreements within agreed timescales
 
Other General Activities
  • Work effectively with departmental colleagues on a cross-functional and cross-territory basis
  • Keep up to date with relevant legal developments and, where appropriate, take opportunities to share that knowledge with colleagues
  • Foster a ‘continuous improvement’ culture, ensuring that policies and processes will protect the business
 
Experience and Professional Qualifications Required
  • UK or French Law professional qualification
  • Fluent spoken and written French language skills
  • Ability to work in French
  • Contract and Commercial Law
  • Contract drafting experience
  • Television and/or digital media experience (preferably in distribution and licensing). In-house or private practice.
 
This role will involve occasional travel to overseas territories.
