About the Job:
The Work of the Oncology Service  The oncology centre provides innovative treatment for malignant disorders.  Through partnership with internationally renowned oncologists, a multidisciplinary approach is adopted to provide a wide range of treatment options to the patient. The centre consists of a chemotherapy day unit, radiotherapy department and a 29-bedded inpatient ward (including 2 radioiodine suites) and the provision of palliative care.  The position as RMO – Fellow Oncology Services,  will be to provide an immediately available safety net for patients primarily requiring oncology support on the chemotherapy day unit, oncology ward or who are potentially at risk of critical illness. You will be the first point of contact for consultants and nursing staff, working closely with the Senior Fellow – Oncology services and under the supervision of Consultant’s who are at the cutting edge of Oncology care.  Who we’re looking for  Degree in Medicine MBBS or equivalent Full Registration with GMC Up to date ALS certificate Broad training in all aspects of medicine and sound knowledge experience and competence in the management of oncology patients including haematology at SHO level Excellent written communication skills Evidence of an interest in research Ability to work as part of a team, and on a one-to-one basisThe Work of the Oncology Service  The oncology centre provides innovative treatment for malignant disorders.  Through partnership with internationally renowned oncologists, a multidisciplinary approach is adopted to provide a wide range of treatment options to the patient. Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • To provide medical cover to the Oncology ward, Chemotherapy day unit and Radiotherapy department at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital.  This will be under the auspices of the Oncology Consultants and will extend to both in and outpatients.  It will be your responsibility to contact the Consultant in charge of any patients (both in and outpatients) regarding any changes to their management you may need to make.
  • Participate in Consultant medical ward rounds, and document appropriately issues pertaining to delivery of care, discussions with patients and relatives as appropriate, and ensure that the management plan for the patient is implemented.
  • Respond to requests to review any clinical / medical oncology patient with a potential critical illness within the Hospital
  • See, clerk and inform the consultant for any emergency admission during your period of duty.
  • Maintain good communication with the other Fellow’s within the hospital about the status of patients with whom they may be asked to assist.  This includes keeping the duty nursing administrator and the appropriate Fellow informed when leaving the hospital.
