Research Support Assistant

MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit

The MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (CBU) is an internationally renowned research institute with state-of-the art cognitive neuroscience facilities.

Applicants are invited for a Research Assistant to support a longitudinal study being conducted in a research clinic for children with specific learning difficulties. The clinic is housed in the Centre for Attention, Learning and Memory (CALM) at the CBU. The aim of this study is to investigate the neurodevelopmental pathways that compromise learning.  The primary responsibility of the post-holder will be to oversee the day-to-day administration and testing of individual children for the project under the supervision of the manager of CALM, Dr Joni Holmes.

You will have a degree in psychology, neuroscience or a related field, and experience of working with children or other vulnerable groups. Basic computing skills (Word, Excel) and basic statistical knowledge (ANOVA, correlation) and the ability to communicate effectively with child participants and their families are essential.

Choosing to come to work at the MRC CBU means that you will have access to a whole host of benefits from a final salary pension scheme, 30 days annual leave entitlement, flexible working arrangements, childcare vouchers, and additionally a salary sacrifice cycle scheme, as well as access to employee/shopping travel discounts.  On site car and bicycle parking is available.  We also provide a wide range of training opportunities to all our staff.

Our success is dependent on our ability to embrace diversity and draw on the skills, understanding and experience of all our staff.  As holders of an Athena SWAN bronze award we welcome applications from all sections of the community irrespective of gender, race, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, disability or age.  As users of the “Two Ticks” disability symbol we guarantee to interview all applicants with disabilities who meet the minimum essential criteria for the post.
