The Social Brain in Action Laboratory (SoBA Lab) at the School of Psychology at Bangor University, Wales, invites applications for a PhD student to work on the ERC Starting Grant ‘Social Robots’ with Prof. Emily S. Cross.
The ERC project investigates how on-going experience with sophisticated humanoid robots shapes social perception and interaction. In addition to long-term training interventions, the project aims to identify how lifespan and cultural experience shape the human side of human-robot interactions, in terms of behaviour and brain activity.
The successful candidate will possess and undergraduate degree in cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a related field.
The Social Brain in Action Laboratory is an international research group housed within Bangor University’s the School of Psychology, which offers outstanding facilities for conducting social and cognitive neuroscience research and is consistent ranked a world-leading department in terms of research and teaching. The university town of Bangor is situated between the golden beaches of the Isle of Anglesey and Snowdonia National Park, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.
This is a part-time post at 50% FTE with the understanding that the successful applicant will be appointed as full-time PhD student on the project. Each appointment must lead to the completion of a PhD thesis. The successful candidate will commence 3rd January, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter and the post is available until 1 October, 2019.
