Can you develop novel techniques to detect and prevent mass-marketing fraud? Do you have a good understanding of online communication and behaviours in cyberspace?

WMG’s Cyber Security Centre are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work on an EPSRC project on Detecting and Preventing Mass-Marketing Fraud (DAPM). Through its multi-disciplinary approach and close focus on co-designing the solutions and testing them in-the-wild during live mass-marketing fraud the project aims to develop practical interventions in tackling such fraud.

This project is ambitious and innovative especially in its approach in drawing from a range of disciplines (psychology, computer science, criminology, media & communication), methods and partners to generate new knowledge and innovation.

With your knowledge of the methods and materials used to convince the target that the interaction is authentic and persuade them into giving up their money to a fraudster, you will develop methods to combat this problem.

The employment package on offer includes access to a generous pension scheme, 34 days annual leave plus statutory holidays and additional benefits.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£28,453 pa). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£29,301 pa).
