This post-doctoral position is supported by a BBSRC award to Dr Søren K. Andersen entitled: “A quantitative framework of attentional selection”.
This project combines state of the art electrophysiological and cognitive modelling techniques in order to enhance our understanding of how attention supports adaptive behaviour. The main objective of the project is to develop a quantitative model of visual attention that directly links electrophysiological measures of stimulus processing in visual cortex with behavioural outcomes. Steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEPs) will be recorded in order to assess attentional modulation in visual areas and these will be compared to parameters obtained from drift diffusion modelling of behavioural data. We will also examine how monitoring of behavioural performance is used to readjust attentional model parameters over time in order to optimise subsequent performance.
You will be required to programme and conduct EEG-experiments, analyse and interpret the EEG and behavioural data and prepare manuscripts for publication. This project is technically sophisticated and a candidate with strong quantitative skills (programming, digital signal processing, modelling, statistics) is sought.
As this post is funded by BBSRC it will be available for 3 years with a start of 1 January 2017. This appointment will be made subject to the usual terms and conditions of employment of the University.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6 (£32,004 to £33,944 per annum), with placement according to qualifications and experience.
