Mission Planning & Control Product Line Engineer Job Description:
Mission Planning and Control (MP&C) is considered a critical contributor to Surface Attack Weapon Systems that provides key ‘smart’ capabilities to future Missile Systems. The MP&C Product Line (PL) department is responsible for establishing a re-usable Product Line of capabilities that are developed in-line with the Product Roadmaps for these future Missile Systems. A key enabler to this strategy is the establishment of generic, model-based reference architectures that are subsequently embodied into programmes.
The role requires systemic, flexible and agile thinkers who can work at different levels of product abstraction, across the breadth of the system lifecycle; from concept analysis and applied research, through the design and development of sub-systems and final customer delivery.
The team are also responsible for ensuring a consistent, internationally agreed approach to the design by working across the company to agree architecture, design templates and implementation methods.
We are looking for highly capable, versatile and enthusiastic System Architects and Engineers to work proactively within the team across a number of international programmes and company funded research activities.
Develop and maintain a project instantiation of MP&C Product Line Architecture system requirements. The requirements have been designed to support a flexible Product Line (PL) for future MP&C products, but need to respond to specific project requirements. It applies the principles of design for modularity and reuse, supported by the establishment of best practice engineering processes for Product Lines.
Evolve the PL Architecture and associated requirements to account for new capabilities, including its logical design, key design drivers and the design patterns that characterise the variation space. • To maintain alignment between the project requirements with the Product Line requirements and support changes to them to account for new capabilities.
Liaise with the Software and Hardware Design and Implementation teams to coordinate the onward development of the design solution in line with the design for modularity and re-use constraint. To define and agree the software/hardware requirements, and review the designs that are intended to satisfy it.
Undertake general Systems Engineering studies and investigations to support the project and the Product Line.
Develop and maintain functional and non-functional Technical Requirement Specifications based on programme needs.
Develop and maintain Interface Requirements Specifications based on programme needs, and maintain coherence with the solution Interface Control Documents.
Apply Requirements Management and Configuration Control processes to establish and control requirements baselines and their traceability.
Develop Test Plans and Test Descriptions to support verification activities.
