Mid-Level Developer (Java, Javascript) - Sky Technology, Leeds

As Sky grows, we're seeking talented full stack and back end software engineers with a strong Java and/or Javascript background to enable the rapid delivery of high quality, customer focused services to meet and exceed customer experience and usability requirements.

Who you'll be working with

Based in Leeds, our Technology team is one of the largest technical hubs in the UK, it's a strategic location for our business and offers a vibrant place to live and work.

Working in Tribes and Squads, our new teams have a real 'start up' feel and there's loads of room for development, but with the backing and products you can only get from one of Europe's leading entertainment companies. You'll have the chance to use cutting edge tools and technologies to create rich user experiences; all whilst working in an Agile environment.

As part of a dynamic squad, you will have a voice that will be listened to and help influence the shape and direction of product development through daily stand ups on the latest high profile projects. You will have the development and support required to help take you to the next level of your career whilst working with the hottest technologies. There is also the opportunity to be involved in brown bag sessions, guilds, chapters and the external tech events we host.

As part of the Technology team you'll work to deliver and support the online services that encourage online customer management and self-help.

Your key responsibilities

• You will interpret business requirements and deliver high quality, customer focused technical solutions and implementations meeting and exceeding customer experience and usability requirements.
• You will deliver rich internet applications (RIA), in an agile environment primarily using open source technologies and the best deployment techniques.
• Working in an agile and team driven approach.

Essential skills

• Prior experience with XP principles such as pair programming, CI, and TDD,
• Designing and developing commercial web sites using technologies like JavaScript and /or Java
• Exposure or appreciation of agile development practices with a wiliness to be a proactive participant in the agile process
• Experience of OO development and design patterns
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Desirable skills

• Experience using OpenCMS
• Experience using GWT
• Knowledge of PCI compliance
• Experience using Node JS, Backbone JS, Angular JS.
• Experience using Apache Cassandra / MongoDB
