Microbiology Technician - Food - ISO17025 - Perm - Bucks - £17-21k
A leading food manufacturer requires an experienced food microbiologist to join their team as a Microbiology Research Technician where you will carry out a range of microbial testing and R&D activities on their food products. You will have previous experience of food microbiology experience working within a UKAS accredited lab to ISO17025.
PURPOSE
* To carry out challenge testing projects in support of NPD and troubleshooting
* To conduct microbial challenge testing to agreed protocols
* To engage in research and development activities to keep company challenge testing protocols and service up to date
* To provide necessary reference samples to support quality assurance testing of external microbiology laboratories
* To support the business with microbial food safety and quality issues as appropriate.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Effective delivery of challenge testing service to company and external customers
o Undertake challenge testing projects against agreed protocols, delivering on time and to the expected quality standards
o Maintain the testing facility provision within Microbiology
o Maintain internal quality systems, aligned to ISO 17025 principles
* Provide reference samples to support quality assurance testing of external microbiology laboratories
* To partake in appropriate, timely and effective response to any microbial food safety issues
* Ensure team activities comply with H&S requirements
* Perform all necessary housekeeping functions and other general duties as required.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Science degree
* Food microbiology experience working to ISO 17025 operating to a minimum of technician level
* Working knowledge of all functions of a recognised competent microbiology laboratory
o LIMS and sample log in
o Full suite of microbiology testing
o Plate reading and reporting
o Pathogen laboratory functions
o Media preparation
* Good practical skills for all Microbiology laboratory techniques
* Good attention to detail and record keeping
* Drive and enthusiasm to carry out tasks within this function
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
* Culture collection development and maintenance
* Report writing
* Knowledge of principles of risk assessment.
* Understanding of scientific protocols and experimental design
Salary £17-21k dependent on experience + benefits
