Microbiology Lab Technician

Their Food and Waters business support many food producers, retailers and national water utilities to ensure people know their food is safe to eat and their water safe to drink.
Position: Waters Microbiologist
Location: Newton Abbot, Devon
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: Rotational 4 on / 4 off shift
Salary: £15,550 per annum, plus £1,200 shift allowance
About the role:
They are currently recruiting for a Microbiologist to work within the Waters Laboratory in Newton Abbot. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be required to prioritise and participate in the workload of the department in an efficient, quality minded manner.
Due to the nature of the water microbiology industry, flexibility is essential. Adherence to the work schedules set by team leaders and performing analysis on the day of sample receipt is key. Other duties will include calibration of equipment, quality investigation work, audits, cleaning and general housekeeping.
This role would ideally suit individuals who have experience in fast turnaround of work, with a focus on good laboratory practice and good laboratory management.
About you:
Candidates should be educated to HNC level, or equivalent, in Microbiology or a related science subject. It would be beneficial to have previous laboratory experience with a good understanding of quality systems. Due to the high throughput of samples applicants must be able to work flexibly to tight time frames. A methodical approach and a good aptitude for detail is required, along with the ability to work well in a team, with an open, honest and approachable attitude.
The successful candidate will require good analytical skills and the ability to perform analysis in a clean / safe environment. A familiarity with computers is essential including the use of Microsoft Office packages and Microsoft Windows. Full training in the Laboratory information management system will be given.
