Manufacturing Engineer - Vehicle Electronics, Configuration And Test Systems (VECT's)

Job Purpose
As the Electrical Test and Configuration Engineer you will be responsible for delivering testing, calibration and configuration strategies to support new model content across all platforms. You will be required to liaise and support Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality & launch to ensure robust Testing/calibration & configuration processes are implemented. Through the role you will ensure that the most efficient, thorough, cost effective testing strategies are implemented to meet and exceed the manufacturing & engineering requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
• To evaluate Strategic Evaluation Letters/Product Definition Letters to understand the VCATS relevant content, define the high level testing requirements, understand high level manufacturing feasibility and create associated budget.
• To liaise with Electrical Engineering to collate flashing, configuration and calibration requirements for new content, confirm manufacturing feasibility and implement into the VECTS program strategy.
• Working within the wider Advanced Manufacturing Team to ensure VCATS Testing plan is compatible with the manufacturing plan and that all requirements for assembly aids are captured.
• To monitor technical progress and delivery against program gateways and pre-production build phases. Feedback production readiness status at senior reviews.
• Develop diagnostic testing, calibration and configuration routines using the testing system platforms used within. Create testing plans to ensure the development, testing and implementation of the routines does not impact current production.
• To specify appropriate hardware requirements and work with external suppliers of equipment to develop and deliver testing solutions/assembly aids that meet requirements, are modular for future use and are cost effective to the business.
• Deliver all testing developments/solutions onto the shop floor within cost, HPC and takt targets.
• Support the ERN process for Electrical/Electronic Components to ensure the VECTS/VCATS BoM contains all of the relevant information and errors are eliminated.
• Support Manufacturing & Launch in the identification, investigation and resolution of issues during pre-production builds.
• To liaise with production to ensure Lessons Learned roadmap actions are integrated into forward planning activities to achieve continual improvement
• To communicate with Electrical Engineering for the resolution of issues, information flow and develop process to aid the development of Testing routines earlier in the vehicle program.
Qualifications & Experience
• A recognised engineering apprenticeship with substantial experience in the Motor Vehicle environment.
• ONC minimum qualification with HNC / Degree preferred.
• Needs to be fully conversant with Microsoft Computer Packages, TeamCentre and have the ability to adapt to new software packages quickly.
• An understanding of vehicle electrical/Electronic systems and an ability to interpret automotive circuit diagrams would be an advantage.
