Basic qualifications: 

* Masters degree in Epidemiology or related and significant experience conducting epidemiologic research.
* Demonstrable and significant experience conducting pharmaco-epidemiologic research. 
* Self motivated with the ability to work independently to develop credibility with colleagues within and outside Epidemiology, as well as to collaborate effectively on multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams. 
* Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking and problem resolution through resourceful use of information and contacts. 
* Ability to work well within a business-driven environment, balance priorities and handle multiple tasks through careful planning, stakeholder management, project administration, and organisational skills. 
* Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively in multi-disciplinary matrix teams and to influence decisions.

Preferred qualifications: 

* PhD/Doctorate or MD with MPH in Epidemiology or related and significant experience conducting epidemiologic research

Details: 

The Worldwide Epidemiology department is part of the Quantitative Sciences division in GSK R&D and supports a wide range of areas, from Market Assessment to Clinical Development and Safety and Effectiveness Evaluation. The support spans across the whole spectrum of drug development, from early drug discovery to registration, reimbursement and lifecycle management.

Purpose: 

Develop epidemiologic programs in alignment with the company's Research and Development strategy in the therapeutic area of Immuno-Inflammation. 

Key Responsibilities: 

? Provide epidemiology expertise for disease understanding relevant to drug development:  incidence, prevalence, risk factors, natural history course, treatment patterns, co-morbidities, co-medications, outcome measures, phenotypes, biomarkers, unmet needs, and their variations across domains such as demographics and geographies.
? Support clinical trial design, in particular target sub-population identification, protocol development, patient recruitment and patient health data ascertainment.
? Support safety evaluation: provide background event rates, synthesize existing evidence including through meta-analyses, identify high-risk populations.
? Contribute to the generation of evidence of treatment value.
? Develop, manage and deliver post-marketing surveillance activities:  risk evaluation mitigation strategies, epidemiology studies for signal detection and inference, post-authorization studies of treatment benefit and risk.
? Maintain and expand a worldwide epidemiology support strategy and research program in specific therapy areas. 
? Build synergistic relationships with partners in developed and developing countries to assess burden of disease and treatment patterns.
? Develop strong partnerships with the different internal stakeholders in clinical, safety, regulatory, health outcome, asset leadership and commercial. 
? Plan resource allocation to accomplish research programs and negotiate internal funding of projects. 
? Develop and negotiate research plans with external collaborators in academia or contract research organizations. 
? Identify innovative, timely and cost effective methods to conduct epidemiologic studies. 
? Oversee and approve epidemiologic and statistical methodologies.
? Conduct and report studies using healthcare databases available within GSK.
? Author epidemiology sections of a variety of submission documents, such as Risk Management Plans and others.
? Present the company position on epidemiology issues and epidemiology findings to regulatory agencies and other external authorities. 
? Establish a track record of external publications in peer reviewed journals.
? Establish a position as a recognized leader in pharmaco-epidemiology and the epidemiology of specific therapy areas.
