About the Job:

Sky is Europe's leading entertainment company and serves 21 million customers across five countries. Together our people deliver the best and broadest range of content, market-leading customer service and innovative technology. We work hard to give our customers a better experience and we're not stopping there. Join us as a Legal Advisor and you'll be part of a big, complex business that continually delivers brilliant results, the right way.

The Team

We are a first-class in-house specialist team of 18 providing a wide range of regulatory and competition law advice and support to Sky's broad range of fast-moving businesses in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

A significant proportion of Sky's regulatory and competition matters are handled in-house, ensuring that this role offers the opportunity for a broad range of high quality work of a standard rarely found outside private practice.
In addition to providing day to day competition law and regulatory advice, the team regularly inputs into key business decisions and strategies across Sky's business. We advise routinely on competition and regulatory aspects of the packaging and marketing of products, the development of new products, broadcast compliance and licensing issues and other regulated aspects of Sky's business, such as telephony and broadband services and access to Sky's satellite platform for third party broadcasters.

The team manages interactions with regulators such as Ofcom, the Competition and Markets Authority and European Commission in respect of competition law, merger control and regulatory matters, including leading on strategic consultations such as Ofcom's review of the WMO obligation, the European Commission's investigation into cross border provision of pay TV services, and collaborating with other teams in the business on the Digital Single Market review and a number of Ofcom initiatives in the telecoms field, including its fibre margin squeeze test and related appeals.
We also handle major investigations and litigation, and are regularly involved in high profile and complex matters, advising on merger control and managing regulatory clearance of transactions, such as the recent acquisition by Sky of the German and Italian Sky businesses from 21st Century Fox.

Key Responsibilities

The role will involve providing oral and written advice on the application of general competition law, merger control and on many aspects of regulation affecting Sky, including access to Sky's satellite platform, fixed and mobile telephony and broadband services, broadcast channels and VOD services, as well as assisting with competition/regulatory litigation. Tasks will include legal research, the preparation of submissions and responses to consultations; preparing and providing training for the business on various aspects of competition law and regulation affecting Sky, as well as drafting and communicating advice to the business.

Candidate Specification

We're looking for a confident, enthusiastic, versatile and motivated individual, with an appetite for learning and expanding their skills across a broad range of issues. Experience in advising on competition law is essential, as are strong verbal and drafting skills. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, proactive, keen to take the initiative across a wide range of work and capable of progressing matters alone, whilst knowing when to consult or seek guidance. He or she will be able to work with and for others in the team and business to deliver objectives. We are looking for a great team player, with excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for Sky's business, good commercial awareness and a keen interest in and understanding of new technology. Relevant sector experience is desirable, as well as experience in advising on fixed and mobile telecoms regulation.

It's our people that make Sky Europe's leading entertainment company. That's why we work hard to be an inclusive employer, so everyone at Sky can be their best.

If you are successful in your application for this role, your appointment will be subject to receiving a positive outcome from your Criminal Record Check.
