Engineering Manager
Manufacturing Engineering & Technical leadership within a manufacturer of Wiring Harness, interconnectors within the Aerospace, Space, Defence Sectors
Stoke
Job Purpose:
To ensure that the engineering department and projects are delivered to the quoted quality, cost and delivery date.
Primary Responsibilities
Senior management of all engineering projects including status reporting to the SMT
Improvement of engineering processes and lean manufacturing
Planning and Management of engineering resources
Key Duties to include
Identification of commercial issues and opportunities to maximize revenue
Review of engineering problems and improvement of processes
Support and development of technical and business development strategy in support of the SMT
Quote reviews and authorisation in association with the Engineers
Weekly/monthly reporting of project status
Review and management of project milestones and tollgates
Review and management of project risks
Interviewing and assessment of staff
Identification and achievement of invoicing
Planning and layout of manufacturing processes
Review of design concepts, drawings and other technical documentation and advising on DFM
Training and introduction of new manufacturing staff
Monitoring of build quality, issue resolution and communication
Team Management
*Setting weekly, monthly and quarterly plans for all team members.
*Setting and monitoring KPIs for all the team.
*Managing, coaching, mentoring and motivating all team members
*Interviewing and selection of team members.
*Annual review process of team members
*Recognising training needs of team members.
*Performance coaching of underperforming team members
*Involvement with disciplinary procedures alongside HR.
Additional
Assist the Managing Director in any special assignments / projects as requested, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Experience and Skills:
Education and Training
Higher engineering education in electronics / mechanical
Work Experience
Experience of managing major projects include commercial and customer interfaces
Experience of working with project teams, customers and management groups
Knowledge and Skills
Understanding of AS9100 approvals includes design, qualification and manufacture of interconnection systems within aerospace / defence industry
Project management up to the value of £1m
Detailed understanding of cable harness manufacture
Aerospace / defence background
Development of strong relationships with customers.
Excellent man management skills with a positive and persuasive attitude.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
High level of numeracy / literacy.
Strong IT skills, use Microsoft suite of packages.
Strong commercial and strategic experience working to performance target.
Customer focused being proactive in addressing problems and realizing opportunities.
Able to adapt and lead introduction of NPIs and working practices.
