THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has a risen for Junior designer to work on : Lighting and Home Dec Designer.  The role will be responsible for researching Macro and Micro Trends, creating Designs for Hard goods across the categories. Lighting, Home Dec, Bath, kids, Christmas and Toys. Working collaboratively with the Wilko teams: including Customer Insight, Buyers and Technical to agree the range content that creates a unique own brand range for the Wilko customer of volume driving differentiated product.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist the Design manager to establish, improve & implement a Design process within Wilko.
  • Define and implement a Visual language that consumers can identify with the Wilko Own brand range through the products you design.
  • Lead the implementation of Macro trend to inform the strategic direction of  Wilko’s and the focus of the product categories.
  • Research and translate micro trends for the Wilko customer informing both the aesthetic and functional elements of the product on the categories you are responsible for. 
  • Work alongside the customer insight team to build a strong understanding of the Wilko customer you are designing for.
  • Responsible for designing the hard good products across the categories, Lighting, home decoration, Bath, kids, Christmas and Toys
  • Create great working relationships with your Wilko category management team, working particular closely with the Buyers, Technical and the supply base to agree and produce a range of products that create differentiation for the Wilko customer.
  • Foster links with Design Degree course leaders to implement a graduate recruitment scheme and run projects that help to delver the W’innovate strategy.

 

THE PERSON

To join our team, you should be/have;

  • Relevant design degree.
  • Proven experience in the Retail Industry desirable.
  • Ability to research and translate Trends information effectively.
  • Excellent design skills for both the functions and aesthetics
  • Ability to manipulate pattern repeats in the design of products
  • Creates sketches to understand the initial concept that can be communicated to others. 
  • Proficient at using design software, Photoshop, illustrator and InDesign
  • Creates samples where appropriate to help demonstrate the concept.
  • Can create detailed c.a.ds to create briefs to send to manufacture.
  • Must have detailed understanding of the substrates you are designing for the manufacturing capabilities and how to utilise these to get the best product, value engineering where required.
  • Proven experience in developing profitable product ranges covering multiple categories for each season.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Some financial understanding including margins, profit, sales
  • Ability to presenting product ranges and concepts to cross functional stakeholder
