DESCRIPTION

The Head of Category Management (HOC) will develop the over arching Category strategy to achieve the desired returns for shareholders and maximise customer satisfaction. Including the total value strategy, customer proposition instore and stakeholder engagement plan.

The HOC working closely with the Head of Merchandising is accountable for setting and delivering the strategic direction of several large categories and responsible for driving performance through their team. Taking P&L responsibility / Category profitability is key, Ensuring that the strategy to deliver this is not only in line with the wider Buying strategy as communicated by the Category Director, but also visible, communicated, understood and adopted across all areas of the business

.

You will:

• Take total ownership of the end to end delivery of the customer proposition with the cross functional teams within the business.
• Be the thought leader for the strategic vision and evolve ideas for change.
• Responsible for the Financial performance of the Categories, including all P&L accountability including, better buying, margin / profit retention and all costs associated with running the categories such as payroll.
• Take total ownership of the end to end delivery of the customer proposition with the cross functional teams within the business.
• In addition adherence to the commercial processes in terms of timings, outputs and information creation to ensure one way of working across the Commercial team is key.
• Have Direct line management responsibility for approximately 15 Category Managers/Assistant Category Managers.
• Work with the Senior Category Manager to manage the Category talent plan and pipeline, internally and externally, to build capability and effectively manage the succession process. Ensuring underperformance is managed swiftly.
• Be able to hold Key Stakeholder relationships and have the ability to hold influence at Board Level 
• Be able to define, execute and monitor strategy
• Have highly developed negotiation and influencing skills to enable successful negotiations with suppliers where intervention is required with the team
• Have good numerical and analytical skills to be first class  at monitoring market changes, competitor prices and products, and past sales patterns to forecast demand.

You will need:

• Substantial Category Management experience working within a FMCG/Fashion or Hard Goods fast paced retailer, with knowledge and experience of:
• Leading and developing a large team
• Good commercial awareness and appreciation of customer needs.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel.
• Marketing/Business/Retail Degree.
• CIM/CIPS qualification.
• Experience of both the Electricals market and products.
• Experience using Business Objects.
