Senior Director, Data Communications Network Services - Telco, Telecoms. ITIL, SixSigma.

The Data Communications Network Services (DCNS) group is an integral part of the SA function and its mission is to maintain, support and enhance my clients Data Communications Network (DCN), providing services to all Products & Services, sites and offices.

The DCN includes both Corporate Infrastructure (Email, LAN, Remote access) and Operational networks. These networks provide voice and data communications to various sites and systems and as such are critical to my FTSE clients revenue generation. Hence it is crucial to the success of my client as a whole that the networks involved provide secure, resilient, efficient and timely movement of voice and data.

The primary purpose of the role is to lead and provide guidance to the DCNS group, formulate the strategic vision for their terrestrial network, assist the Service Assurance SVP in scoping and developing SA function, ensuring DCN continue to support existing and future product and services with the right degree of security, reliability and efficiency, defining and implementing the necessary processes to provide the services and interact with all stakeholders (Business Units, CTO, Cyber, Group IT and others) and oversee the day to day activity of the DCNS group.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a group of skilled engineers, keep them motivated and committed, oversee their day to day activities and coordinate and facilitate interaction with all stakeholders across Inmarsat.

Assist the SVP of SA with strategic decisions about the DCNS Group and interact with other members of the SA division to ensure DCNS is fully integrated into the SA function, the necessary tools are in place and the required activities/functions are defined and implemented.

Introduce ITIL process culture within the DCNS group and make sure processes are implemented correctly and monitored/executed on a regular basis.

Devise the strategy for and implement the evolution and integration of the various networks, in order to increase the service level, operational stability and cost efficiency of networks group wide.

Interact with Cyber Security team to ensure high level of security standards are maintained and operated across the DCN in accordance with Industry Standards and Security Policies.

Interact with Contracts Department for Carrier/Supplier management.

Main responsibilities of the DCNS group include (but not limited to) the following:

  • 2nd and 3rd line DCN support for in-depth troubleshooting
  • Definition of DCN Key Performance Indicators
  • Analysis and reporting on DCN major outages & KPIs
  • Operational implementation of DCN strategy
  • On-boarding of services from CTO into operational network
  • Design and implementation of DCN expansion and network solutions for customers
  • DCN capacity planning and optimisation for existing and future services
  • Benchmarking of DCN costs and quality against industry “best practice”
  • Regular vendor / carrier strategy review
  • Procurement and management of network capacity, capacity optimisation (Performance & Analysis on all tickets / issues raised against SLA / KPI’s)
  • Network security implementation, optimisation and improvement
  • DCN Life cycle management

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

Strong and proven experience in leading big teams of skilled engineers and inspire them to reach their potential

Strong staff/programme leadership experience with a high degree of integrity and a proven ability to mentor and lead teams; a demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries, act upon convictions, face up to problems quickly and take action. A willingness to be self-critical and learn from mistakes - avoiding hubris.

Strong communication style, the ability to use all technologies to ensure clear communications and ability to provide candid feedback

Gravitas and presence; an ability to act as a spokesperson for Inmarsat with relevant internal/external stakeholders and to build strong and sustainable relationships.

Extensive knowledge of terrestrial communication systems

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Able to travel internationally

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

University degree level education or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Communications, Networking or related subjects.

Proven experience of working in a network environment configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls and monitoring devices.
