About the Job:
Join the Cloud Integration Design team, a well-established team, designing Integrated Services for IBM's premier cloud platform Bluemix and other Fortune 500 on-premises enterprise software offerings. We are looking for a User Researcher with experience of uncovering user needs and solving real user problems to join our team based at IBM Studios Hursley. The candidate's research insights will be integrated into products used across the world by hundreds of thousands to build, deploy, and manage apps for use by millions. The desired candidate must have a passion to identify and connect with our target users and become their advocate in influencing our products to meet their needs.
 
  • Conduct research using a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Work cross-functionally with design, product management, and engineering to prioritize, plan, and deliver on research initiatives
  • Synthesize user feedback via hands-on team discussions in order to translate insights into actions and requirements
  • Use Lean and Agile practices to uncover your recommendations quickly, collaborate with other designers and disciplines, and shepherd actions to completion
  • Collaborate to create and maintain personas in order to build team empathy for real users; use those personas in storytelling techniques such as empathy maps and as-is/to-be journey maps
  • Evangelize the importance of design research as part of IBM Design Thinking and educate product teams new to design research methods in order to help them integrate real users into their design life cycle
Required Technical and Professional Expertise:
  • Degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology or related discipline
  • Previous experience in user research role, preferably within enterprise software and performing the research activities to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Ability to clearly communicate benefits and insights of user research in a way that generates empathy amongst cross functional teams of designers, engineers and product managers
  • Ability to adapt existing research methods to the project's needs and to define new research methods according to the organization's needs
