Our client is one of the largest specialist contracting service providers in the UK, which it has achieved by continuing to expand the geographical coverage provided and enhancing the ability to diversify and provide a high quality service nationwide.

Overview

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Manager to develop and lead a new business stream within one of our market leading clients.

The role reports to the Head of Operations for External Works and can be based at any of our clients UK offices (any region of the UK) , but the successful candidate must be prepared to travel and stay throughout the UK, as required.


We want a proven, successful Civil Engineering Manager that has experience of leading operational activities within a direct labour based organisation. We anticipate that the successful candidate is currently working as a senior contracts/operations manager in a small to medium sized civil engineering business and is looking to develop to his/her career within a larger organisation.

The role and responsibilities will be as follows: -

To develop and shape our clients civil engineering department and offering
To build a new team from a standing start, hopefully through drawing on contacts and relationships already established in the sector

To lead, develop and coach the team - driving productivity and developing a culture that people want to work in
Develop, embed and maintain a safety to ensure the highest standards of health and safety on all projects
Make sure we are providing a high quality service to all our customers by having regular communication and proactively checking we are meeting their expectations to gain repeat business.
To take full responsibility for the time, cost and quality of all projects - really owning the customers, the projects and the sites
Being accountable for the P&L for the department
Plan and maintain an overall work schedule to ensure the most efficient deployment of labour, plant and materials
Develop an effective working relationship with all other members of the Management team.

About the successful candidate


The ideal candidate should possess the following skills, behaviours and qualifications::
A relevant qualification, in civil engineering
Experience of managing both below and above ground civil engineering projects from £50k to £500k in value
Able to work effectively with a senior management team, both within our clients company and sister companies.
Able to drive operational delivery in a direct labour based organisation
Understands and is focused on customer service
Organised and a completer finisher
Able to recruit and develop people for the future
Have a strong understanding of the commercial aspects of project delivery and how to deliver to agreed budgets
Have a track record in delivering contracts on time and within budget in a contracting environment
