Cambridge CTU Cancer Theme Lead (Fixed Term)

An exciting role has opened in the Cancer Team of the Cambridge Clinical Trials Unit. If you are looking for a new challenge then come and join one of the best research institutions in Europe to make a difference in cancer research.

You will work in partnership with the CCTC Director and CCTC Business and Operations Manager to lead the trial coordination team on a daily basis, ensuring the design, set up and coordination of high quality, investigator initiated trials (IITs) and translation research studies.

Operationally, you will have oversight of the team's budget and will ensure that staff follow relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and regulations.

The key functions of this role are: - Lead the design, set up and coordination of high quality, IITs and translation research studies. - Advise researchers on trial design, feasibility, trial management costs and approvals processes. - Recruit and line manage a multidisciplinary team, including conducting appraisals, dealing with disciplinary issues, training and career development. - Maintain oversight of trial coordination for all trials within the cancer theme (CTIMP and non CTIMP). - Deputise for the CCTC Business & Operations Manager where required. - Be an active member of the CCTC and CCTU Senior Management teams.

Our current portfolio of ~30 Cambridge University Hospitals sponsored trials includes Phase I-IV studies and biomarker studies. These studies encompass both single centre, feasibility studies and large, multi-centre trials.

As you will lead a team of ~25 staff responsible for statistics, trial coordination and data/sample management, experience in line management and excellent communications skills are essential. In addition, demonstrable practical knowledge of the regulatory requirements for the conduct of CTIMPs is required.

The CCTC (Director: Professor Duncan Jodrell; Business and Operations Manager: Dr Si-houy Lao-Sirieix) benefits from funding from the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Centre, Cancer Research UK (Cambridge is designated a CRUK Major Centre) and the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Eastern (Addenbrooke's is a leading contributor to NIHR portfolio studies).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
