Academy Technical Analyst


As part of the University of Cambridge, the University Information Services Division (UIS0 develop and support computing and administrative systems which are used across the institution. These systems include; Student Records, Human Resources, Finance, the University Card, and Pensions. We are investing in an Academy and are seeking positive, dynamic candidates to work closely with a large variety of teams and people across UIS. Within the Academy, we have two roles available; one Academy Functional Analyst and one Academy Technical Analyst.

Overview: The Technical Analyst will help to support and enhance our core systems and services. The role will be focused on disciplines such as coding and developing software. We will provide hands on training for the role and systems being supported. While the role will be within the Academy, the successful candidates will be given primary assignments for the duration of the academy programme. For this recruitment phase, the primary initial assignments will be within the Student Systems team, working on PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and covering a number of application technologies based around the Oracle product suite.

You will work alongside experienced developers, functional consultants, business analysts, testers, trainers, and project managers on a diverse range of activities. You will become a self-sufficient developer through the practical application of the training provided and will have the chance to explore all aspects of the software development lifecycle. You should be able to demonstrate the willingness to tackle challenging tasks in a highly effective and professional manner, often under tight deadlines. We are looking for team-players with a keenness for learning, an enquiring and analytical mind, and the commitment and enthusiasm to become successful academy analysts and improve the software solutions we provide.

We will require candidates with degree (or equivalent) grades of 2:1 or higher, the degree does not have to be IT related. We do not expect you to know everything about IT, but we do expect you to be a quick and keen learner, ready to make the most of the opportunities that you are given. We are looking for positive and dynamic individuals keen to work

Typical placement programme: Over two years, you will experience both development and support roles. 
During this time you will build up skills and knowledge in:- - Gathering client requirements and turning these into detailed and accurate specifications - Designing and implementing new software solutions - Database design - Coding - Testing and documentation - The use of tools - Usability - Business Analysis - Project Management - Problem solving - Data analysis

You will be contributing to the development of IT solutions across a large and diverse institution.

Learning and development: A Personal Development Plan , tailored specifically to your needs and goals, will ensure that you have constant support and guidance from the Academy at UIS, your line managers and mentors. If you're looking to develop professional qualifications, then you will receive help in working towards a range of options in IT or Project Management disciplines.

As well as on-the-job training, you'll receive regular one-to-one coaching from your line managers. Feedback is vital, and regular performance reviews are part-and-parcel of the programme. We'll make sure that, at every stage, you know how you're doing and how you can go further.
